As the first rays of dawn paint the Skye skyline, Alex and I lazily shrug off sleep, enticed by the whisper of a sultry day ahead. We linger over breakfast, every bite and sip feeling slightly indulgent, given our shared, unspoken acknowledgement of time slipping through our fingers.

With our coffees in hand, we venture outside to soak in the morning's gentle hush. The garden murmurs softly – a symphony of distant waves and early bird song. Though just beginning its ascent, the sun spreads a mellow warmth as if trying to comfort us.

Settling into Alex's embrace, our muffled giggles pierce the serene stillness, a loving ode to the playful memories from the night before. "Remember our wild escapade by the fire?" I quip, revelling in the low chuckle that resonates from him, warmer than any flame. Our gazes meet, and what I see in his eyes sets my heart aflutter in the most delicious way.

"Can you believe we actually did that?" I muse, my words dancing with mischief.

His voice, roughened by morning and emotion, replies, "Believe it. And know, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat."

As our smiles converge in mutual understanding, he draws me in for a tender kiss, a promise of countless moments yet to be savoured. The world might be demanding our attention beyond this cocoon, but in this space, it's just us – wrapped up in the golden embrace of the morning and the palpable connection that's ours alone.

The world outside seems to respect our moment, offering us a cocoon of hushed reverence. Yet, it's Alex who breaks our bubble, his voice laden with the weight of impending reality. "We should head for the station by one," he mentions, every syllable heavy with the gravity of goodbye.

His words hang in the air, filled with unspoken emotions. I brush my fingers against his cheek, hoping to anchor us both a bit longer.

"Bron," he whispers, pressing a chaste kiss to my palm, "I'm not ready to let you go."

The tidal wave of feelings his words stir threatens to capsize me. Yet, reality tugs at my heartstrings, reminding me of the world we'll soon return to – a world of duties and distances.

"'Absence makes the heart grow fonder,' they say, don't they?" I chime in, attempting a playful diversion. But who was I fooling? My voice trembles ever-so-slightly, betraying the unease nestling in the pit of my stomach.

He catches my gaze, a hint of mischief in his smile. "At this point, my heart could give fondness lessons," he quips softly, inducing that familiar, delightful flutter in my chest.

"My lot in London won't manage a day without me," I reply, the determination back in my voice. "We always knew this time would come, didn't we?"

With a slow nod, he cradles my face and plants a chaste kiss on my forehead. It's an affirmation, an acceptance of the looming inevitability. As we nestle into our little world, bracketed by the muted hues of the Skye morning,
